Sony Mp4 Renders Look Funky

Hi all, I have been a Vegas Pro user for over 4 years and I just can't seem to get a render setting that matches what I see on my preview screen.

I had been using the Sony AVC Mp4 render codec for years but lately I've been seeing great videos online that have LOWER bit rates than what I upload but look MUCH better - which begs the question...

WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE RENDER SETTING IN VEGAS?

begs the question, what are you starting with?

From the oogles of postings here at this forum on in-Vegas MP4, it seems that the overall consensus is that it kind of sucks.

For online content like YouTube, etc. I like others use the free Handbrake app for MP4. on MP4 with Handbrake is a great way to build presets. The Handbrake GUI has changed a bit since that tutorial, but it's still easy to figure out.

My videos are pretty short so I can afford to do an uncompressed .avi master for Handbrake to use. But there are certainly other more non-lossy or more or less non-lossy compressed options that others can suggest.
