Sony PVM-2130 monitor ok for vegas?

Hi,

I have the possibility of getting Sony PVM-2130 monitor for quite cheap. Problem is I dont anything about this monitor. But would it be relatively good for monitoring my EX1 material via Vegas 8? I have a miniDV so i could use that to feed the monitor. Does anyone have any knowledge about this monitor?

It's only a SD monitor from what I can see although I can't find any specs on it. I *think* I've seen one, they seem to be pretty old so if nothing else consider it might need a pro service and calibration.
Also I think it's an open frame monitor, meant to be built into something. Probably not a biggie if you keep your bits well away from the EHT.

Thanks Bob! yeah, i cant find any specs from the internet. but ive seen it on sale at some pro shop at 400 euros second hand and i could get this for around 100 euros.

I dont need HD quality resolution but it would be nice if I could use this for some sort of color correction. Im gonna go and test it tonight and let my eyes decide :)

I'm not so certain that if you're editing on a HD T/L if you can get SD out of firewire with Vegas. Maybe you can, just haven't done it myself. Might need someone else to chime in on that one.

I can see the image on my miniDV camera when I output HD 1080p or 720p material from the timeline via firewire. That should mean that it works right?

When I do this the preview window in Vegas plays back the material as well. In the older version 6 it used to go black, maybe its changed.

Playing back 1080 30p material plays at 25fps so its not full frame rate. Is there a way to disable the preview window inside Vegas or would that even help it to play at better frame rate on the external monitor?

under options>preferences go to the preview device tab. Down near the bottom there is an check box for "display frames in video preview during playback." If its unchecked, it should work.
I've never previewed via firewire, but it works for secondary displays via a regular old monitor jack. I hope this helps.

Buying old CRTs can be sketchy since old monitors deteriorate as they age and may have subtle problems. Just go to any library or other place with lots of old CRTs and I think you'll see what I mean...

Check out the monitor before you buy it. Is the image in focus, do the colors look right, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the help people! I ended up not buying the monitor. The monitor was a huge 30kg thing. And the image watched via SCART input wasnt that good, had a lot of that jaw edged jpeg thing going between colors and sharp objects. It had a lot of inputs though (bnc, rgb) and maybe with correct usage it could be good. But Im gonna wait, save some money and buy an HD LCD monitor a bit later.
