Sony's Goga Pocket Uncompatable With Sony's Vegas 5.0?

Sony sells a new line of editing computers called the rz series, which comes with a device called the GigaPocket, with this GigaPocket video card you are suppose to be able to output to an analog VCR as well as DV. This is the reason I bought my Sony computer, and was thinking that any project I do in "Vegas" which is a Sony product now would work with the Giga Pocket.

Of course I was wrong; Sony's GigaPocket says it will not recognize any video clips edited using other software, but its own really crappy software, meaning my projects done with Vegas can not be exported through the Giga Pocket toi my VCR because both Sony products are not compatable. I guess I could print to DV and then to the VCR but thats a waste of time and money, especially since my clients still want VHS copies.

Will Sony be having an update for this problem?

Imifilms,
Gigapocket is made for consumers, and uses the DV gate tools.
Gigapocket is from Sony Electronics, which is a "different" company than Sony Pictures Digital..... And in many cases, they aren't working with each other. I did read a workaround that you can edit in Vegas, and then drop the MPEG2 files in Gigapocket app, and burn. Have you tried that?
Gigapocket is (it seems) really made for burning of DVDs or SVCD's. But that's based on what I saw at CES, not any information I've been given.

Once again this blows the "Sony is part of a global conspiracy" theory that has been getting an airing over at the audio forum out of the water.

That was the same discovery I had when buying my RZ series. I specifically asked about input and outout to analog. The guy at the store was sadly misinformed. Good news is that there are workaround. Analog capture through giga pocket and translate to AVI works very well but is time consuming.

For output to tape I have found that burning a DVD in DVDA and then copying from DVD to VHS works without much quality loss. Not the most ideal way of doing things but it works.

Another thing about Gigapocket, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL A PINNACLE CARD. I did this the first weekend I had the computer and had to completely wipe the drive and reinatall all of the sony stuff. Pinnacle was of absolutely no help the sony people were good.

(As a side note - I bought the computer and did all of this before discovering Vegas I actually intended to use either premiere or pinnacle studio)

Long live Vegas.

The majority of Pinnacle's "prosumer" products are pure, unadulterated junk. Their Edition NLE is the most unintuitive piece software I have ever used. If it says Pinnacle on it, run like the wind.

Long live Vegas!

Pinnacle stuff is ONLY good when installed on a standalone system that is connected to nothing, has nothing on it except Pinnacle, doesn't need to play in a sandbox with other kids, and is only used by old ladies for their church videos on Sunday.
Unless you're talking super pro broadcast equipment. They shine with their high end tools for live broadcast. But....that's another story.
Pinnacle....Break Like the Wind! Oops, that was Tap.
