Sony trade up to digital.

I got this little advert in the snail mail today. From Sony it says "Good bye Analog. Good buy Digital" The thrust of it if you want to purchase any Sony DVCam or Betacam SX products between September 28, 2003 and March 28, 2004 you can bring *any* Umatic or Betacam Sp gear and Sony will give you $500 towards the new digital purchase. Sounds good - but if Betacam Sp gear, in good condition, was only worth $500 a lot more people would be using it. Yeah I see 3/4 gear for under 50 bucks at times...but I don't think I have ever seen any form of Betacam gear for under $2,000 unless it was totally trashed. And maybe that is the idea of it all.

I bring this up because this is now a "Sony run" forum and many people here are looking for digital gear - so hey, here is your chance. (Yeah - irony is intended)

I got that also. I couldn't find anywhere though where it says if you could trade in multiple items and get 500 for each towards the purchase of just 1 item. Or if it just 1 trade in per item.
We have lots of old 3/4" decks that we would love to trade in. We could probably get a free deck if they allowed more than one trade in per purchase.

Yeah that was my first thought - I was thinking "Well - 500 for each item..." but they do not give any specifics. The wording of "...recieve a minimum of $500..." implys you could get more. I guess call and see? Or just load up a van full of old useless 3/4 gear and drive down to your local Sony rep and say "here are 50 decks and camera. Can I have a DVCam now?" LOL - if only life was this simple.

I know we must have 10 or so of those really old top-loading 3/4" decks in the warehouse just collecting dust. That's $5000 right there!!

I've got a 3/4 playback and 2 3/4 editing decks at work. Maybe those would be worth more. It sure would be nice to get one of those Sony DVCam/MiniDV/DVCPro (play only) decks here! We've lost 2 DVC's in a month here. :)
