Sony TRV-33 Firewire Card???

Does anybody know of a firewire card to use in conjunction with a Sony TRV-33 and Vegas 4.0? I tried an Intek21($25 bought at a local place). Vegas told me that it recognizes the card but Vegas says that it was unavailable. Needless to say my video capture would not work. So for the time being I have been uploading through my USB port. What’s the difference between 4 to 4 pin and 4 to 6 pin? My sony Camera guide recommends a 4 to 4 ilink cable but I believe that Vegas 4.0 says something about 4 to 6 pin. Let me know what you think

6 pin simply has 2 additional pins for power. Since DV cameras don't typically try to use power from the firewire cable, they usually have a 4 pin connector. Firewire interfaces on a computer will usually have 6 pins so that they can supply power to the connected device (if needed).

I've encountered a number of interesting problems with the Vegas capture utility after I hooked up my ADVC-300, so I downloaded the trial copy of ScenAlyzer to see how it would handle things, and it works fine. My suggestion would be to try the trial version of ScenAlyzer (www.scenalyzer.com) and see if it has problems with capturing. If it doesn't, then the problem is with the Vegas utility not with your firewire card.

I have a Canopus ADVC-300 too, and haven't had any problems with the Vegas
capture utility. What sort of problems did you have ? ( I'm curious )

I have a Sony TRV-38 that I use with an ADS Firewire card. No problems at
all using this combo with Vegas. I think the cheapest way to buy the ADS card
is to get their Pyro Basic DV kit.

Vegas capture insists on only allowing me to do analog capture. It appears to see both the digital and analog capture devices, but it won't let me capture from the camera and I can't deselect either of the devices.

Are you trying to connect the camera to the firewire port on the ADVC-300?
I think the ADVC manual says that will not work. No point to doing so anyway, just plug the firewire cable directly into the camera.

There are 2 firewire ports on the 300 - a 4 pin and a 6 pin. Both ports are specifed in the manual to be for camera or computer, the only restriction is that you cannot hook up a 2 DV camcorders to both firewire connections at the same time. I have the 6 pin rear port going to my computer and the 4 pin fron port connected to the camcorder.

As I mentioned, ScenAlyzer works perfectly; I can select either Digital or Analog as my source and the 300 switches to whatever is specified (I have it under PC control). Hence my conclusion that Vegas Capture has a coding issue of some sort.

were a camcorder. I always connect the ADVC-300 or my camcorder to my PC
via a Firewire port, but never both devices at the same time.

I have a TRV 22 which is more or less the same as yours. I bought some generic firewire card on EBay and I too have problems with the capture utility. I find that if it doesn't work, I shut off the camcorder and unplug the firewire connector from both my camcorder and my computer...wait ten seconds...plug them back it and turn the camcorder on. The computer normally recognizes my camcorder and will let me capture into Vegas
