Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11 - A real bluff

traimond wrote on 9/1/2011, 4:42 PM
It is a real shame that this software, without any kind of information, makes practically impossible any editing with 3d video coming from cameras like Sony HDR-TD10 due the 32 bit limitation. Practically it is impossible to edit more than few minutes of movie.
So I wiill obliged to wait for a MAC solutions, due the fact it is not honest by Sony to inform us about this limitation only after having purchased the product and there is any sense to spend 500 US$ for Sony Vegase Pro. At the worst Magix software offers a 64 bit 3d editing option at less than 100 US$.
I am very frustrated about this fact.

???

There's plenty of information available if you ask or look for it, traimond. I've even written books and created tutorials on both version 10 and version 11 and include information on 3D anaglyphic editing if you're interested. http://Muvipix.com/vms11.php

Macs are great computers though, if you've got the money to invest. I'm sure you'll find a great solution there.

I have already a MAC and with a basic software like IMOVIE I succeed to do almost all at 64 bit, except 3d editing till now.
The point is that the new product Vegas Movie Studio 11 launched to make possible the 3d editing also for the Sony cameras remain a bluff, because the 32 bit limitation makes impossible to do any 3d editing.. And this is a shame and not an honest approach of Sony.
I will continue to shout and shout again for this absurd fact.

I'm sure you will. But what's the point? Why not just buy a product that does what you want instead?

Most of the people on this forum are people who are helping people who genuinely want to work with the program. All your shouting will do will be to upset them.

Why not contact Sony instead? It's their product.

I'm very happy with it and am glad to offer assistance to anyone interested.

I have contacted Sony, obviously. They said I need to buy Sony Vegas Pro 10 to work with 64 bit. This is right. The pity is that with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 11 there is any chance to edit 3d video despite the claim of the product advertising.
This is not a criteria of good customer orientation. For this reason, very probably, Sony is losing and losing market share in this market.

I agree with Steve. I don't do any 3d stuff but since applying the LAA patch I have no problems at all and am highly delighted with the software.

This forum is full of knowledgeable, dedicated enthusiasts who will bend over backwards to help anyone with who is having problems. Most people accept the few limitations of the software with no fuss. It serves no purpose at all to rant and rave to a forum that has no influence on SCS.

By the way, have you tried the LAA patch at all. It may cure your problem.

Beyond discussions I was just faced difficulties to manage 3d side by side videos with this software.
Can you kindly give me some more hints in order to search for an apply the LLA Patch ? I didn't received this kind of input by Sony. Thank you very much

Search for and download laa_2_0_4.zip

Extract the executable to a suitable folder then use the Run command to launch it.

For instructions on how to use LAA visit

Apply the LAA patch to the Vegas Movie Studio executable VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe (for VMS10) or
VegasMovieStudioPE110.exe (for VMS11)

Thank you very much for advise. Where is possible to download the correct file ? I am searching it but I didn't find the exact file.

I agree with you 3D ripoff !!

I have the Sony HDR-TD10 & Vegas Movie Studio 11 HD Platinum Production Suite

Every time I import the full amount of 3D footage 1.6hrs into the timeline it crashes or even when I load the project again. video preview is slugish in 3D for 32bit program / should be 64bit these days!!! & my PC is beyond min spec for product so should be powerful enough to handle it.

All setting changed for best preview results etc same media settings / tried new install

This product feels unpolished for 3D video editing.

Navigate to

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556

You'll find the link to laa_2_0_4.zip at the bottom of the page.

Extract the executable to a suitable place (anywhere will do) and launch it with the Run command. A dialog box will appear with 3 steps.

In Step 1, browse for the file VegasMovieStudioPE110.exe (it will be somewhere underneath folder Program Files (x86)) and select it.
In Step 2, select the check box to put a tick in it.
In Step 3, click Save.

You must have more than 3G of RAM to use LAA.

As I said in my first reply, I had all sorts of trouble with VMS crashing, running low on memory (I have 8G), etc. Since applying LAA I have had none (although I am not working on 3d). Hope this makes sense.

Thank you again. It works - but there is only the chance to edit a short portion of movie before crashing (more than without the patch, but heavily less than one hour).
I have appreciated a lot your cooperation and the spirit of this forum really useful but I cannot continue to say that this product doesn't satisfy the claim to be a tool to edit stereoscopic 3d movie.
So I am sorry to repeat that Sony has lost credibility.

Yes. It has lost credibility with you.

I hope you find a product that works, traimond.

I have the Sony HDR-TD10 & Vegas Movie Studio 11 HD Platinum Production Suite.
Please help.
How to change the settings of Vegas Movie 11 to render the file for 3d-file accepted by the camera HDR-T10? I want to send the file back to the camera.
Sorry if this question is too simple:)
Steve Grisetti wrote on 9/20/2011, 3:32 PM
It would probably be better to start your own topic with this question, Kristof, rather than tagging onto this older thread. That way we can give your question the focus it deserves.

Regardless, I don't believe Vegas Movie Studio has the ability to output a 3D file back to a 3D video camcorder.
