Hi folks,
went to launch Vegas this morning, keeps closing and flashing up the VEGAS HAS STOPPED WORKING
these are the detials: unmanaged exception (0xc0000005)
(address0x5BAA99) and says the problem is with .exe itself. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, with no joy, any help would be greatly appreciated!
I will try a system restore and see if it works then...will keep you posted and thanks for the reply! I also use Premiere Pro, but Vegas is so much more accessible and faster, it would be a shame to lose it.
well tried to run system restore, twice at different points, says an unknown error occurred, which means it hasnt restored and the program is still non-functioning,
As pointed out, the best option after System restore failed is to roll back to a backup, but I'm guessing you don't have this option or you would have. Here's what I would try next:
Somewhere around there are "clean uninstall" instructions which basically means after you uninstall you go delete some registry entries and some normally hidden files.
If you own an earlier version of Vegas, I would launch it first and determine if it's working. If not, uninstall/reinstall that too (what you mutter while you're doing this is up to you...)
If you get stable:
1. Make a system restore point.
2. Make a system backup of your C drive. There's lots of good software to do this, I confess I don't fully trust the free Windows version but it's better than nothing. Mostly you have to do more work. But a commercial product is worth the cost.
Install to a Vegas version prior to build 511 - I recommend build 425 as worth a try. I have no idea what, if any, issues were improved by going from 425 to 511 but there certainly was a lot of pain produced.
@Graham: It seems that the (0xc0000005) error goes back a long time - at least to 8.0.
But the referred link is not something that I have used myself - just a result of some searching - but to me it sounded reasonable and probably worth a try.

Damn, I didn't read the thread properly when I first answered. But this proves that the problem resides with Windows itself. I would suggest you do a Windows repair. You have to go through all the steps as if you were reinstalling Windows but pick the option to repair Windows.
