Sony viao help on stock soundcard. Help.

I have just purchased this computer and have a question on the soundcard.
I have inserted a wave file that I will be dubbing to on track 1.
I am now wanting to record on track 2.
As i arm the second track and hit record, the music from track 1 gets recorded as well to track 2.
So I get both on one track!!!
OUCH!!
This is a simple multiplex viao card that is factory stock.
Is it not possible to multitrack with just one stereo card??
Does not sound right to me.

DR,

Before you record, right click on the track header and select 'Record Inputs' You can select left, right or both. Pan your existing track to the left, and select 'right' record inputs to record your new track, and you should be able to 'multi-track' that way. If you're not monitoring through an external mixer, latentcy may be a factor.

The Windows mixer has a PLAYBACK setup and a RECORD setup. Find the record setup and see what input is enabled. YOu want LINE IN enabled. Chances are you have MIXER OUTPUT enabled or something like that.
