After reading a few posts reagarding render times and the possible advantage of dual core processors, I did my own test. It verifies what others are saying:
Viao SZ110 w / T2400 procesor, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD
HD capture from Sony FX1(M2T or MPEG2-TS) file size 2.29 GB
rendering to best DVDA template including audio
RENDER TIME = 33 minutes 49 seconds
Desktop AMD 3500, 2 GB RAM , RAID 0
HD capture from Sony FX1(M2T or MPEG2-TS) file size 2.29 GB
rendering to best DVDA template including audio
RENDER TIME = 82 minutes13 seconds
Render time is reduced by nearly 2/3 !!!! This is in the stamina mode for entended battery life by utilizing an on board Intel video card. This laptop has a hybird video system and you can switch to a Gforce 7400 video card for more graphic intensive applications. (I am wondering if that would improve render time; I doubt it but perhaps I will give it a try).
I am an AMD fan and I am sure their mobile dual cores (when available) will have a performance advantage, but I get nearly 6 hours of battery life with the Intel. I have heard the AMDs will use a lot more power and run hotter. I would appreciate hearing from other dual core users, particularly the Mobile AMDs when they come out.
