Sony wake up - Vegas could be a Final Cut killer

Man, this program rocks. Sony, with their great reputation in broadcast video could make Vegas into the killer application, one that would be way better then Final Cut Pro.

I'd like to see Sony do the following:

- rename the program or add "Pro" to the title, the name Vegas sucks, and when searching for it online you wind up going to Las vegas websites instead (plus, Vegas implies "fun or a game" this won't attract pros)

- focus on EDLs, media management and file exchange with post houses

- get a serious titler, look at Premiere Pro and how they upgraded their titling component after Prem 6.5

- make a SONY hardware accelerator card for Vegas or a SONY uncompressed/HD harware solution for Vegas, don't leave to others

- court some big name editors, networks, TV shows to use their system.

These are all things that have been suggested many...many...many times before. The name for most of us users is fine, if you judge how good a program is by it's name then you aren't a professional. I know they have done some work on the EDL but I've never had to use it. For the titling they just included the limited version of Boris. The accellerator cards I'm not sure if we will ever see or not.

This was all discussed here a couple of months before the release of v5.

The final outcome was, basically, "If Vegas isn't meeting your needs, find the app that does, buy that one and use it."

Is this a post that was written a year ago? The equivalent of the postcard I just got in the mail talking about my new apartment which I have lived in for five years?

(That's true I just got a postcard from Spain that was sent five years ago.)

C'mon guys, if you're gonna try to make MBelli feel bad, I'll take it one further.
This was ALL discussed before Vegas 2 ever released. To the point that I flew my Canopus Storm system to Madison to show why Vegas needed acceleration. To the point that I flew to San Jose to meet with Brandon and Alex to see how possible it would be to make hardware happen.
Regarding the name, believe me, this was a HUGE internal issue back when Roy was head of marketing. It's too late to change the name now, IMO. And the name is working fine.
MBelli is a fairly newcomer to the forums, so LIGHTEN UP YOU CRUSTY OLE' VEGAS USERS! :-)

Sure that all this stuff wasn't discussed even before Vegas came out -- like maybe Vegas 1 or Vegas . 5 ??? Damn.... guys!!

Anyhow, I guess I bring this up because I think the program has finally matured and with Sony grabbing it, kind of makes the entire broadcast community look at Vegas more closely. So now is the time to strike.

In regards to the name Vegas, I just always thought that Vegas really was a bad choice. Ewminds me, I was shooting/interviewing the Adobe guys (Richard Townhill, Premiere Group Manager) in NYC 3-years ago for a series I produced for IFC on digital moviemaking and I suggested to him to add "Pro" to the end of "Premiere" or revamp the program to attract the pros and Townhill winked at me (Premiere Pro of course gets released shortly after).

Vegas once DID have "Pro" after the name. At the same time as the "Buddy" bowling ads hit the market for Vegas Pro with images of a trailer trash bowler using Vegas, and later a comedian using Vegas. Thankfully that reign in the marketing department ended. I still have a "Buddy" bowling shirt. Red with black piping....Uh!

I think Sony just needs to focus on the "this program rocks" part and not worry about the name. Now that people know the name Vegas, I don't think it would be useful to change it.

Though, sonyvegas would be easier to search for.

I still think Vegas is like Christmas year round. I get a new present every day and I haven't even tried 3d bezels or network rendering with that trick to use hyperthreading as a network. They cleaned up the keyframe anomalies I had in V4 to rock like operation. There are other operations that can be improved but I pound on this thing day after day
and if I screw up it saves itself and then I find something new like yesterday the audio FX Automation. Then I get my jollies watching the volume levers and readouts changing as its playing the timeline. The slow motion needs a lot of work as I really can't use it because of all the jumping. Its actually unusable for analog captured clips. But I'm not compaining because maybe I'm just doing something wrong. By the way how do I activate Supersampling?
