Once firmware v2.0 (out in June) is installed, footage shot using that firmware will go straight into Vegas.
I would guess they've been having a few problems, based on how long it's taken, and that the first 4k for the camera is only 60 Mbps, less than the consumer model ax100 already has.
I've been using the Adobe CC trial to convert my clips. I don't think it's a good sign that Sony Vegas is one of the few programs left unable to play X70 clips considering it's their codec and camera. My suspicion is they have one programmer working on Sony Vegas these days. Hope I'm wrong but from what I can tell Premiere CC, Edius, Lightworks and Avid are all working with the X70 footage. Sony Support says it's a priority but they do not have a release date. They have been saying this for so long that I really don't believe them anymore.
Some people on this forum say were being harsh criticizing Sony but tech support needs to solve this even if they have to bring outside help. It's way overdue and really inexcusable to not work with your own product line.

Not how I see it.
The "excuse" that they're waiting on Sony to fix the camera is tragic. I could accept Sony blaming another camera vendor who has issued a specification their camera doesn't conform to but Sony blaming Sony just doesn't wash in the marketplace and the absurdity is further compounded by other NLE vendors seemingly not having the same difficulty. No matter from which vantage point one views this issue I can only see a conclusion that one way or another casts Sony as an entity in a bad light.
it still doesn't shoot 4k...that's the larger issue in my mind....seems sony vegas division is waiting for sony camera division for the 4k update then it will load ....somehow.
We have had direct push-back from Sony as they state it is a lot more about the specifics of the camera manufacturer (read hardware/firmware) than just making the codec suddenly appear in VegasPro. When you get direct line push-back, then I read some thing is going-on which we are not privy to at this time.
Wait for the next firmware release of this camera. July 2015?
I just got the X70 two days ago and I had no idea this problem with Vegas existed.
One very strange thing that I saw yesterday is thins;
If you try to read the .mxf video meta data directly off the card files, you wont see anything...MediaInfo show it all completely blank.
After you process the .MXF's with Catalyst, that metadata is then inserted into the copied files.
Huh?....the X70 writes files with no metadata? What camera does that?
Either way, Vegas cant read either files.
This is just bizarre. This is just a glaring red flag that things at Sony are not going very well.
Is it really that difficult for Sony to make a camera and have it's NLE company be able to read it's files? What in the world could this road block be?
According to a recent comment by Sony Vegas tech support they plan on being able to get Vegas to be able to read X70 files generated prior to the upcoming firmware update.
I have had my X70 for 3 days now and I must say that I'm still stunned about this XAVC-L problem in Vegas.
The Sony X70 can record 50Mbp/s, 10bit, 4:2:2 XAVC Long GOP. However, I'm actually reduced to shooting in 24Mbp/s, 8bit, 4:2:0 AVCHD right now.
It's like Apple releasing a new iPhone but it's not compatible with iTunes...even though it's been out for 6 months!
Woah.......I'm still having a hard time believing this. Even worse,...Adobe Premiere CAN with these files today. I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone here.
The Vegas AVC decoder(s) can be quirky. To be precise one should say, Mainconcept AVC decoder(s) since SCS licenses those.
I have seen a plain AVC MP4 file, downloaded from YT, and thus likely encoded by x264, and Vegas decodes to green screen and nothing else has a problem with it.
An AVC+PCM MOV file, encoded by QT Pro had the video length wrong. Nothing else did. Vegas bypasses QT and uses its internal decoders for AVC+PCM MOV files.
So it does not surprise me that Vegas has some quirks with some other AVC/XAVC file(s).
I would have been perfectly happy if Sony used the AX100's .mp4 wrapper on the X70
I know that .MXF is the "Pro" container, but really I dont know what benefits it's supposed to have over .mp4. I care allot more about the codec itself than the wrapper that it's in.
With .MP4 being very wide spread these days, I think it's easily "the one" to use.
I want to give people a heads up that Adobe Media Encoder CC is a good solution for converting files until Sony fixes the X70 issues. I convert to XDCAM 4:2:2 and can edit in Vegas or Premiere CS6.
Here's the thing. I installed AME CC trial and it does not expire. I do not know if this is because I own Adobe CS6 or if Media Encoder is just free but I won't complain either way.
