Sony Z7 and PS3!

OMG this is just too cool for words! I can take the compact flash out of my new Z7 and immediately audition the raw footage on my PS3 just like I can with the CX7! I can't express how cool this is. From the PS3 you can even plug in a USB (as long as it's fat 32) hard drive and copy the clips you like to it. Talk about instant gratification! This is going to be fun!

Maybe I spoke too soon. The clips played initially on the PS3 perfectly, but when I tried to use the card again in the camera, the formatting was hopelessly corrupted. I'm not sure why yet. I tried it again with a different card: same thing. This looks like a feature that will probably be really cool at some point in the future, but I'm wary about it for now.

Laurence, I don't have a Z7 to check, but it is likely the camera is keeping internal data about the last written to position on the card. The camera senses a change in the card status, the stored status vs in camera data doesn't match, creating an error. Check if there is a finalized command for cards initialized by the camera. I have seem problems with cards initialized by a cameras, from video to stills.

Well I buggered up two cards. They won't format in the camera either. They need a lengthly full format from my PC which seems to take forever. Anyway, as cool as this feature should be and as much as I want to be able to do it, I'm not putting a Z7 compact flash anywhere near my PS3 until I hear that it's ok from somebody else.

Don't you have a write protect tab on that removable media?

Hitachi has some nice 2.5" SATA drives, 200-250gig.
Thinking of putting one in the PS3, it's very easy to do.
After your replace the drive simply hold down the Power key until a screen initialize appears.

One of the Kingston Compact Flash cards I buggered up by trying to use it in both the Z7 and PS3 will not even format in the computer now! It goes through the whole format procedure just fine, then ends with an "unable to format" message. What a pain!. Funny, usually a memory card will even handle a trip through the washer and dryer. You'd think it would handle being used in two separate Sony devices just fine. I guess it is time to see how good Kingston Memory's service is.
