Sorry, I’m done with v15

Red Prince wrote on 9/16/2017, 6:13 PM

This is just absurd, this “improved” interface. I have said many times I would hate the black background, and hate it I do. So, I tried to switch to the “light” background, which seems nice and like the previous versions of Vegas. EXCEPT, the menus have a much darker background AND show black text on them.

Are the Magix developers all in their twenties with a perfect vision that they think this is a good design? I happen to be a psychologist, so I can tell Magix has not consulted any expert in the field of psychology or vision or they would not made such a stupid mistake.

I’m through with Magix! Hasta la pasta!

I'm very happy with the new UI and that Magix didn't consulted you....

A wee bit harsh 3P? However, with a few individual graphical improves, I'm loving the new GUI.

If I was running a focus-group, I'd fight for RP to be part of it. That much passion? Oh yes, oh yes.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 9/17/2017, 4:23 AM

Harsh wording by whome? By 3P or RP?

I like the new dark interface too, maybe because I am not a psychologist? But a lot of people had asked for a new interface, but not everybody will be satisfied with that, as usual.

Can't you change the color of it?

joseph-w wrote on 9/17/2017, 5:00 AM

I'm not fond of the tone either but sadly I think this guy is as frustrated as I am that they didn't leave the UI alone. It's not a simple dark/light. The icons, the shading, the borders on things. It's definitely a step backwards.

All I wanted w/ version 15 was under the hood improvements. Get rendering to work w/ my GTX 9xx card (and potentially give me a reason to upgrade). And they did that! Buuut I am completely unable to use the software w/ the new graphics. It's all different. The icon set/etc. Why not just an internal option for all the old resources?

I know Magix didn't build this from the ground up so it'll take time but man I cannot use it for my work w/ the changes. So I've been doing while I have a trial is working in V14 and then saving my .VEGs to render out of V15 w/ the amazing speed. Just super frustrated there wasn't an intermediate upgrade of sorts.

I'm begging for a full legacy True/False in Internals. Icons and all. Thanks either way.

It's not the dark interface that causes problems for many but the lack of contrast as well illustrated by this thread

And what you gonna do buddy? :) Go to dark Premier or Resolve. We all in the dark now, YouTube and twitter now have dark themes too.
I still not happy with new UI in Vegas 15 too, but i still hope! Icons, controls, scrollbars, borders, gaps and all UI is so old and archaic. But no problem with dark theme here...

3POINT wrote on 9/17/2017, 6:22 AM

I don't see any harsh wording in my response.

There have been a lot of discussions about the Vegas UI here. Some like the darker UI of other NLE's and would welcome such a modern look for Vegas. Others would leave it like it is/was. Now the Vegasteam implemented both looks and give you the possibility to give your Vegas UI also a personal note. But still some people are complaining and dislike all the UI possibilities. Maybe those should consult a psychologist, instead of the Vegasteam.

There were some very interesting people on 60 Minutes a while back with fantastic memory capabilities that use color as a basis for remembering things. Also documentaries on PBS. Maybe that's why color is so important in our daily "Vegas Pro" lives.

I agree with OP. The contrast is terrible. And icons are terrible.

fawtz wrote on 9/17/2017, 7:37 AM

and they didn't keep the previous UI into the presets ? impossible to ''mimic'' it ? maybe an update fix would bring that option back so everyone is happy ? seems something easy to do ain't it ? so many questions regarding that subject...

Yes, it is a terrible difference. They should all be fired. 😉😉😉😄😄😄😄😄

Yes, it is terrible difference between Vegas 12 GUI and Vegas 15 GUI

It is similar to:

Windows 7 vs Windows 8/10 GUI

MS Office 2010 vs MS Office 2013/2016 GUI

side question for RED PRINCE: is your monitor calibrated? Perhaps it is too dark exacerbating the issue.

juan_rios wrote on 9/17/2017, 10:38 AM

There are obvious failures. If you do not know where it is, in the headers of track there is no evidence of where to put the name. In "Light" mode the texts in black on a dark gray background is not exactly a help.

That is not a good comparison. Compare the drop down menus between VP15 in light mode and standard VP13. While they look similar, the VP15 contrast between text and background is too little.

I personally prefer the darker interface and the colored icons, absolutely hate the VP14 icons. However, I find there is too little difference between a button active and inactive in VP15's dark interface.

Yes, agreed. Especially on the FX Bypass icon.

+1.

I would also like to see the subtle white line that delineates events returned to the timeline interface. I find it more difficult to differentiate events in v15 than in previous versions.

NCARalph wrote on 9/17/2017, 5:03 PM

+1 (but I still like Vegas)

The contrast in all the color choices is ridiculously low (and yes my monitor is calibrated). I finally switched to white mode and it's fine.

Given the topic, just thought i'd take the opportunity to say how much I love the new colored "save" and othe icons in the top left location.

Havent got around to changing things yet. I certainly agree with juan_rios's point about the track name, also Oldsmokes .. button active/inactive also needs some work.

kimfit wrote on 9/17/2017, 6:07 PM

I love the new interface. My only grip is it crashes a lot when I am editing. Guess my 16gb ram isn't enough or gtx 980ti isn't great enough. I dunno, but I had to go back to 14, otherwise I love the improvements and look.

I totally disagree with you, and psychology has nothing to do with tastes and other subjective matters! I love so much the new dark theme interface .. Magix did a great job and the right thing offering both dark and light interface to suite the tastes of most users.
