I think it would be a fairly simple task for a script, which are supported in Vegas Professional. May be already supported with Excalibur or another plugin.

Other than naming them chronologically and sorting accordingly, I don't know how one would automate that task in Movie Studio.

Thanks for the response. In one of the tutorials at Youtube I have heard a statement saying that Vegas Movie Studio (non-pro) also supports scripting but a weak is necessary to make it work. Has anybody any info on this|

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for. I use a free program called DV_Date. Just google it. If your files are AVI's then you can rename them using the time-date code even down to the second. Then just arrange them in explorer by ascending names, then drop them into vegas in order.

"a statement saying that Vegas Movie Studio (non-pro) also supports scripting"

I'm pretty sure that's not true. It's one of the main features that divides the studio versions from the pro version.

The Project Media tab has a Date/Time Stamp column.

With the events in the timeline, right click on the event in the Project media tab, right click and choose Select Timeline Events to locate it in the timeline, move as needed.

Cumbersome? Yes, but it is a way to sort your events by date/time.
