(sort of) OT: Interesting copyright links

I stumbled on these and thought I would share them with you all. Next time someone asks about using music in their video and complains about the law send 'em to these links.

Cease and Desist and other legal goodies.

Overturn the Copyright Term Extension Act .

Opposing Copyright Extension

And I think this one may have already been mentioned: Creative Commons

filmy,

You did not "stumble" across the links you provided, you searched for them and excluded all results to the contrary.

Somehow, I think that if your creations were successful, you wouldn't be complaining about being paid for them....

???????

Sorry - did I miss something?

By my definition in this case "stumble" means I found these when I was looking at something totally unrelated to copyright or music. So musicvid your remark that implies I actually did a search for these things and left out anything else is so far off base it is laughable. If you have ever bothered to read other threads in these forums about music and copyright you could find many links I provide to the law and to fair use and to places like Bug Music. Also lots of suggestions about how to work *with* musicians to obtain what a person might want. So when I saw these my first thought was about people who question all of what people like Spot and myself say. ..as in here is another point of view. I think Creative Commons is an awesome concept and I had never seen the site before I stumbled on it tonight, and it could work for lots of the people who post here asking about where to find stuff they can use.

And as for your second comment - gah? Were you trying to post in another thread and ended up here? If you know you are responding to what I posted than where did you read me complaining about being paid for any work I do? Anyone else reading this help me out - Musicvid has stated, seemingly to me, Somehow, I think that if your creations were successful, you wouldn't be complaining about being paid for them.... so someone tell me - this means what in response to my post?

Filmy, There has been many discussions about copyright issues recently, I think Musicvid was thinking you were continuing those discussions, but on the side of free use, no fees. Too many people seem to want to avoid paying copyright fees.

Still doesn't explain the comment about me complaining about being paid for my work...because it isn't succesful???? Sorry but that comment made to me, even if Musicvid thought this was another thread, makes no sense at all.

Filmy, I don't understand it, maybe musicvid is having a bad day too. Spot is struggling with a system drive problem that sounds like it may have contained important business information. Hope things work out for you.

Not really an "interesting link" but thought you might find it useful.

Regarding the real value or non-value of the links...I'm doing my damndest to stay out of copyright discussions. It just gets people in a dither, and none of us individually can do much about the laws one way or the other. I know the laws are VERY confusing, but at the same time, it seems like in many cases people spend as much time seeking/exploiting loopholes as they spend trying to find answers.
It's only getting more confusing, what with UCITA's backers now bowing out. 2 years ago, I was castigated over on another forum for saying UCITA was criminal in it's intent while at the same time defending copyrights. Now UCITA has lost ALL momentum, with only 3 states supporting it as law, and 13 states having at least heard it before their legislatures. The original authors of UCITA have backed away from it too.
I mention this only because it's getting more confusing, and will continue to do so for a while until a complete overhaul of the system takes place. DMCA was an attempt to overhaul a lot of it, and it failed. It was also only a temporary stopgap.
I'm so tired of copyright discussions it makes my eyes hurt. Around here, it's like inciting a riot whether we're talking about "Happy Birthday" in a restaurant or illegally downloading movies.
