sort of split screen for entire show .,not clips

I am making a show where I have my main screen - but in the upper left there will be a small box with a smaller video also. I know this is a sort of picture in Picture.

My MAIN question is - is there a way that I can set a specific video track to just reduce the picture and put it in the smaller screen top left?

I have done this before by either:

a. making 2 complete videos - and then taking the output of each and making a new project with each complete video one on a track and I size them each.

b. changing the size for every clip in the track to be that smaller screen position - as I add each clip.

What I am wondering is - can I make a setting on the tracks themselves that will automatically show whatever is on the track into that small area so I don't need to change the sizing on each clip and also don't need to make 2 separate videos and them combine them for my effect? (also if I do that whenever there is nothing on the smaller track it will look like black instead of just being transparent) I hope I am explaining myself well here.

I have a secondary question (more a taste one that the technical one above) that I would like thoughts on - If I have my main video be full screen - and the smaller one on TOP of that - I will be blocking some of the main picture.
if I sort of make boxes - so I have a small screen top left and a larger screen bottom right (and that leaves 2 blank strips) then my main screen will be smaller (showing this on a projector for a party) but will not have anything on top/blocking it.
what are your thoughts ...

If I go for the small one on top /covering - is there a cool way to give that box some depth instead on just one on top of the other ...

Thanks
Allen

Look up "track motion" in the manual / online help. All you have to do is put all your clips on one track and resize that track's output.

As to your follow-up question, track motion has the option of adding a shadow beneath the resized video.

thanks I knew it would end up being a newbie thing - even though I have been using Vegas for years .. if you don't use something you never know its there :)

I will look it up and return if I have further questions
