sos! please help!

please help. i tried converting a vcd .dat dile into mpg. the image was a bit stretched. the screen size appeared shorter. i edited using that mpg file and when i render to mpg for vcd the image looks the same. is this normal. will the finished vcd display correctlyu on tv or will i get the same thing im seeing now? how can i solve this problem in vegas? please help. im new at this.

also im getting a lot of pops and clicks on my audio. it's annoying since my setup is pretty fast. p4 2Ghz, 256 mb ram, 7200 rpm disk, geforce ti4200 video display card. i used to have a slower machine and i didnt have this kind of problem with the audio.

Hi,

Yes, this is normal. 'Pixels' on the TV are not square like they are on computer monitors. This means they will appear a bit squashed. They should look correct when viewed on the TV.

No, media player will display it squashed but it will look correct on your TV.

i dont mean to be a hassle. but how do i make my vcd display correctly in both media player and in a reguar vcd player. commercially produced vcd's can be dispayed correctly in windows. i want the same thing.

Commercially produced vcd's are the same. Windows Media Player will not show them correctly. But players like BSPlayer and WinDVD will.

thats strange. i watch vcds using my pc all the time. they look right to me. maybe there's something wrong with my rendered file. i forgot to mention that the original vcd .dat file looks fine in windows media player, and the converted pre-edited mpeg file is squashed in windows media player.

thanks so much to all of you. i think i found the solution. you're right, the original is a tad squashed in windows media player./ i changed the properties of my file and the video looks like the original now. thanks guys. i have noticed though that the color is duller in my final file. hjow do i saturate the color?

I believe media player play .dat files directly (provided you have associated .dat files with Media Player via a 'Open With...' at some point in the past) - I guess Media Player is smart enough to know that .dat is VCD and will simulate the pixel aspect ratio of a TV resulting in a correct display. A normal .mpg is not treated in the same way, I guess. If you are able to create a .dat file from this .mpg I think it will play OK in Media Player.
