In the Vegas online help it says that when you put a track into record
mode you will get a recording level control depending on the capabilities
of your sound card.
I'm using a GadgetLabs Wave/824 and SoundBlaster Live and don't get
the recording level control for either cards.
More importantly for me the track effects don't function in record mode
either - I would really like to be able to apply a limiter to prevent the
recordings from clipping.
Thanks, Simon.

The GadgetLabs cards do not support the Windows Mixer API, so you
will not be able to control the input level. The SBLive should
provide a level control when selected as a track's input device.

We do not process any incomming signal through fx. Why? Because you
could not monitor/control the signal in realtime due to Wave and
driver latency issues. The only solution is to use an outboard
limiter/compressor on your source.
