Does having a better-than-average sound card pay any dividends if I want to burn home movies onto DVD??

Not really, especially if your workflow is:

DV camcorder -> Video Factory -> (internal) DVD Recorder

You never even utilize the sound card in this scenario (other than when you preview it in Video Factory and play back the finished DVD on your computer).

However, if you plan on capturing other audio with your sound card (voiceovers, etc) or if you are capturing analog video (VHS, 8mm) with a capture board that uses the sound card (as several cheap capture cards do), the sound card becomes more important.
