What is a good multi track card that uses light pipes (up
to 24 in & outs)? I'm lloking for a new solution to run
vegas in WIN2k with and would like to see what people are
happy with. How well does the RME cards work or MOTU
cards , etc....
Hey John,
I can tell you the wavecenter cards from Frontier are the most
reliable especially for the price!!Been using these for 4 years and
never..I mean never a prob!Great support as well. You could install
two to get sixteen or up.Light pipe all the way.I use the tango 24
for converters which is equally excellent.Motu and others have their
days through our experience of uninstall or adding new software, but
frontier has this down!Maybe others have a preffered setup that
works.Let us all know eh?
Good stuff.:-)

I'll second the Frontier recommendation. Truly underrated company.
Excellent products, great support. I have their Dakota card. It
integrates wonderfully with Vegas. I use my MDMs as A/D converters
and flow 16-tracks into Vegas at one time without a hitch.
For what it's worth, the Dakota also has excellent MIDI and ASIO
support, for near-zero latency when using software synthesizers like
Native Instruments Reaktor (an incredible new toy that has been
eating up a lot of my time lately!).

I'll triple the Frontier Design recommendation. I own a Wavecenter
and a Dakota card. However, I use both on win98 systems and as far
as I know there is no Win2k driver for either card yet. Anybody out
there using these cards in win2k?

The absolute best card for your particular NEEDS/MONEY is without a
doubt, the Project Hammerfall, introduced by Steinberg in the USA as
their Digi 52/96. They are IDENTICAL, but the Hammerfall can be found
in the USA for about $150 less if you shop around. Has 24 Adat in/24
Adat outs plus SPDIF i/o, all active at same time. 16/20/24 bit
recording at 44.1, 48, 96k. The card will automatically sync to Adat,
and has Asio 2.0 and MME drivers, which gives you the most flexibility
when using different sofware on the same machine. Drivers available
for Win98/2000/NT.
At $525/550, how could you go wrong?
PS: This recommendation is based on your stated needs; people needing
analog outs are a different story...
good luck!
Victor.
