Sound files

I just succesfully produced my first DVD, burned and plays with no problems. One thing I am not sure I got the grasp of is the audio file side of things. I get the impression that the audio and video should be converted to Mpeg seperately but I couldn't quite figure how to do that or did I just misunderstand. I believe my audio quality could be better , I created a NTSC DVD to play on a PAL set up,most of our sales are in the USA, but also we need DVD's to play on PAL for Europe and our budget does not allow us to Repro both formats. So the sound quality maybe a conversion issue when playing on a PAL set up, most people will not notice but I would like things to be the best possible. So my question is should I have done seperate Mpegs for audio and video and if so are there sync issues. One further issue is I saved my chapter markers with my file but they did not show up in DVD-A, do I need to do anything special to enable those?
"Kameronj" please do not bother to reply to my queries! All other respondees welcome.

I may have found my answer to the chapter marker issue in The Knowledge Base, any other theories welcome though.

From Knowledge Base:
If you copied this MPEG file to another folder/computer you'll also need to bring over the .sfl file. This is where the chapter markers and other metadata is stored for an MPEG file rendered by Vegas 4.

Does this mean copy in to the same folder or actually into the Mpeg file itself?
