You'll have to be more specific if you want us to help.

At what point does the sound get out of sync? Is it out of sync as soon as you capture? Does the freshly captured AVI look out of sync when viewed with Windows Media player?

Or do you mean that, when you move the video clip on the timeline in Screenblast, the audio doesn't stay with it? Obviously these are two very different problems.;)

If the video is being capture out of sync, could it be that your camcorder is one of those cams that record onto a DVD? If so, the file format those cams use isn't set up for editing and will require a workaround.

Sorry for being so vague.

The captured video is in synch at the beginning of a long (60 minute) clip, but gets out of synch fairly quickly.

It is out of synch when viewed in WMP as soon as I capture it. It is also out of synch in the Screenblast preview.

I have a DCR-TRV 38 mini-DV camcorder, so it doesn't record onto DVD.

I did just place my setting on the camcorder from 12-bit sound to 16-bit sound (12 was the default). Might this make a difference?

Definitely could make a difference.

I'd try another capture.

Are you getting a message after capturing "dropped frames" I find that to be my problem with sound out of synch.
cavsct94 wrote on 6/6/2004, 7:33 PM
I tried the 16-bit sound and it didn't change anything.

Ralph413-- I'm not dropping any frames.

Any other ideas? This is troubling. I just took a 5-minute movie of my baby, and it was out of synch also. It is in synch fine on the mini-dv tape playback-- only after I move it over USB to my computer does the audio get out of synch.

Any chance of capturing via firewire?

I had this same problem with capturing, it is strange if i capture an video lets say one of 60 minutes than the sound is something like 62 minutes with my system. I solved this by going to the propherties of the audio and video track
and click on the media tabs in the video track. At the video track there is a line called attributes there syou can read the resolution and the time of the video and i changed the time of the audio to change the option Method None to Change lenght preserve pitch and put in the line for new time the time of the movie.

AllanT --

Your post is potentially very helpful to others, but that last sentence is quite convoluted. It makes sense to you, perhaps, because you know what you're referring to. I had a lot of trouble deciphering it, and had to re-read several times to understand what you're trying to tell us.

For the benefit of others, would it be possible for you to break it into smaller pieces for clarification?

I'm not trying to offend or be overly-critical, please don't think that. You've provided some very good information.

Wouldn't the bit setting for sound affect only the bit depth during recording? In other words, after a clip has been recorded to tape using 12-bits, is it possible for changing to 16-bits to have any effect on that clip during transfer to your computer?

My feeling is that it will not affect the DV transfer, and that a more valid test would be to try another project with the 16-bit sound enabled during record.

Just theorizing -- I don't pretend to be certain about this.

I see my sound out of sync in the preview sometimes while I'm capturing using firewire as well. However when veiw the captured file, the sound is fine.
I found restarting the capture, or preview will sync things back to normal.
