Check out the SONY MiniDisc Walkman recorders. Excellent quality, very portable, runs for days on a single AA battery, can record over 70 minutes on a single disc.

Only problem with the cheaper models is that you have to transfer in real-time analog to get it into the computer. More expensive newer models can do a direct file transfer through USB.

Definitely a MiniDisc recorder. Forget MP3 Recorders! The quality of ATRAC (MiniDisc) is extraordinary.

Also, get a good microphone, the best you can. Cheap mics sound horrible, but a good one (I use a Rode NT3) sounds incredible, offering a full 20-20kHz frequency response.

In the UK paid (several years ago now) about £250 for my recorder and mic. Still going strong!

Good Luck

Or you could use you video camera and just use the audio. When you're previewing your footage it's worth making a note of any useful audio, even if the video isn't.
