sound track: stereo to mono

I was working on an mpg and after adding and editing a second file I noticed the sound track for the first had become mono. What did I accidentally do to cause this? How could I have gotten it back? I started all over. Argh!

Right-click on the audio event.
Select "Channels", then "Both".

At that point all options were grayed out. Perhaps I did a Save and negated that possibility.
