when i put a clip on the timeline, i get an error message telling me i don't have read permissions to a file/folder, and then i don't get the waves on audio to show up. i am using windows xp, vegas 4.0. i just installed vegas on my new pc. does file size have anything to do with this? my file sizes are 7 gig, approx 1 hour. i shot some video at a church, and used two cameras. it was approx 1 hour long, each file.

there is no problem editing this, or rendering files. just the waves don't show.

any thoughts?

check if the file is secured from reading by WinXP

Also check the permissions for the folder that contains your media file. You need to be able to write files to that folder, because Vegas needs to create a .sfk file. This file contains peak data that is used for drawing the audio waveforms. If Vegas can't create that file for some reason, you won't see your audio data drawn on the timeline.
