SoundBlaster Live -vs- M-audio Delta 44

I know this might be a dumb question, but I am getting
ready to install a delta 44 with an omni i/0 pre-amp
breakout box.

I have heard people talk about sound card latency, Will the
delta sound card improve the speed or number of tracks I
will be able to record versus the SB Live?

Also, I have heard people say use a second drive for audio
only. If I decided to use my Quantum fireball 7200 ata 66
as a slave drive for audio only and put a 5400 ata 66 drive
as my drive C for the os only would that increase audio
recording speeds and ability? I guess I don't understand
the benefit of having a slave drive for audio only.

Thanks for any input in advance.

This is a little off your topic but I had a SoundBlaster Live card
because it is a low cost digital I/O option. After using it with a
high-end external D/A converter I thought it sounded strange and did
some tests... and it was HORRIBLE. I'm talking about stuff like 400
Hz sine waves coming out of the digital output at the wrong frequency
and wrong amplitude. Very bad. I think it has to do with
the "effects mixer" that you can't turn off. I sold the card to a
friend who wanted to play video games. My opinion of the SBLive is
very low for anything close to critical listening applications.
