soundcard problems?

evilflip13 wrote on 6/5/2002, 6:04 PM
I just tried using VA2b for the first time. I'm using win2k, 500MH, 260MB RAM, M_Audio Delta AP 2496. No matter what source I'm recording from when I arm the track the track meter shows the signal but when I click the record button on the transport I get no waveform. The control panel, Vegas preferences, and the Delta AP are all set to recognize the Delta AP. It's routed correctly and the soundcard mixer shows the signal as well. I did note in the manual I should see a #1 for the audio button on the track bar(sound mapper & Delta AP, right?). Instead it shows a speaker symbol and only gives me the stereo/mono option in the drop down. Is there something I'm missing?

Check options/ preferences and make sure " microsoft sound mapper " or whatever its called is not selected

are you trying to record in 24 bit? the ap2496 does not support 24 bit with non asio apps like soundforge and vegas.

project properties are set to 16bit 44.1k. Yes, Options->preferences->routing is set to Delta AP, for preview and all busses. I E-mailed this problem to technical support they suggested I record on windows sound recorder to eliminate hardware and drivers. It did record fine. then they said to update my VA2 to ver.h which I did and I still get the same result.

jbrooks says,
"are you trying to record in 24 bit? the ap2496 does not support 24 bit with non asio apps like soundforge and vegas."

The Audiophile 2496 DOES support 24 bit with non asio apps like Sound Forge and Vegas,

evilflip13,
The confusing thing here is you say you see the meter level registering audio...I can't give you the solution other than to tell you my Audiophile works in Vegas and Forge and tell you how my settings are.

In Vegas > options > preferences > routing, select "custom bus routing" .

Select WaveOut 1/2 Delta-AP for preview, bus A and so on.

For default audio recording device select PCM in 1/2 Delta AP. This eliminates going through the Delta Monitor Mixer and possible incorrect routing settings there.

When I arm a track in Vegas I see a "2" as the second selection in the dropdown menu is the PCM in 1/2 Delta AP.

Click record on the transport and I get audio.

I record in Vegas using 16 bit usually but in Forge I use 24 bit constantly. My OS is Win 98 SE so there's a variable.

Hope this helps, MJ

What driver are you using with the 2496? I had a similar problem and changed to an older driver from m-audio, release 4.1.22.27 This was with win98.

Good Luck,
Phil

Yes, every M-Audio driver I've used except 4.1.22.26 (the one that
came with my soundcard) has done nothing but create pops and clicks
and otherwise ruin good recordings.

I've heard driver version 4.1.22.27 also works well, but I haven't
used that one myself.

This topic of M-Audio Delta series drivers has come up before
too. do a search to find more information and go to the M-Audio
website to download a different driver.

Is anyone using the most up to date driver with the Audiophile 2496
and not getting the pops and clicks?

I'm using 4.13.01.0041 with no problems at all. There is a newer version reseased about 2 weeks ago (DeltaVxD4_13_1_42.exe)that I've only downloaded and archived but have not installed to date.

Sorry to bother you with this, but you mention an "Options-Preferences-Routing-Custom bus routing" menu. I can't find it on my version of Vegas (the latest). Have I missed something?
Thanks

Thanks for all your input on this. I did everything anyone suggested with no results. In the end it occurred to me to just start all over and reinstall VA which worked like a charm. Best guess I have is that I loaded VA before I downloaded the driver for my soundcard from the internet. Maybe opening up VA and configuring it for the sound card without the driver installed caused some recognition problems.
I don't have an answer for you "pop" I don't have the latest ver. I have VA2h. Options is up there with file, edit, tools, ect. All I can say is stay posted and maybe post your own message.
