I'm sorry to hear of your problem. I just upgraded from sp2 to sp3 on Saturday without any issue so I could install vms 10 .

Try booting to safe mode. The sp3 upgrade creates a restore point. Did you notice any errors during the upgrade?

i see that sp3 is required to run vms 10...i was installing sp3 last night and now my computer will not boot up...i was talking to my IT guy this morn and he filled me in on some insights...anyone else ever have this prob with sp3?

Not with SP3, but .. years ago .. I had a similar problem. I don't remember what the upgrade was, but it was a "normal" Windows Update .. and afterwards my computer would not boot. Never did figure it out. It was a home built computer that had been upgraded in various way over the years, but was getting a bit long in the tooth so there was not big reason to get it running. Bought a cheap laptop to tide me over .. until I bought a nice new Dell i7 with 12 gig and Vista 64 about a year ago.

i did some research and found if you change a number in a section of the regedit then it should work and it did...

I had heard that SP3 makes the PC slower..
is there a downside to upgrading to SP3?

I guess it depends on your PC secs, I haven't noticed it being slower.

No, not yet.
