Spanish tv spot - Your advise, please

Dear friends,
I am used to produce a tv spot following these steps:

(An example is this file:
www.unasam.edu.pe/spanishspot.mpg )

1- I use video, pictures, voice over and music background on a Sony Vegas 5.0 session.
2- I render my TV spot using the default template "VCD NTSC (320 x 240"
3-I burn a VCD
4- I record that production from the VCD signal (a DVD playing the file) to a VCR recorder.
5- I deliver to my customer (he wants it in VHS tape).

This year I want to increase the video quality. What is your advice?:
1- Use a DVD instead of a VCD (buy a DVD burner) ??
2- Use a SVCD instead a VCD?? (what is the template) ??
3- Get a new video card with a TV/DV output ??

All your commets will be welcomed!! Gracias!!

So you are creating a video for broadcast on TV? I am surprised the VCD format was ever good enough. But maybe I am misunderstanding what you are really doing here.

Getting a DVD burner would be the easiest way you could deliver higher quality results - a long as your customer can accept a DVD format. You will also need to purchase the upgrade to DVDA (it sounds like you JUST have Vegas 5 right now). You caould also create your DVD from your DV AVI file using other software which may come with the DVD burner that you buy - although DVDA is a great product and well worth the money.

If it's for t.v., why on earth would you render it 320x240?

render it 720x480 and give it to them on MiniDV tape.

sí creo que es necesario para comprar un DVD Burner--para la mejor calidad.

First of all, you have one of the best video editing systems available. VCD, in my opinion, is worse than VHS to start with. Buy a DVD recorder for your PC. When you render your video, do not use the default mpg2 template, choose the DVD NTSC template. (if NTSC is the format in Spain.) The quality should be more than twice as good as a VCD. The size should be 720 x 480 for NTSC. That's full screen size. Even when you transfer the DVD picture to a VHS tape, it will look a lot better than if you transfer a VCD to tape. I can't think of any TV station that would use 320 X 240. That's slightly less than half the picture screen. You can buy DVD blank discs by the hundred for about 40 cents each. If you can make a VCD, you can make a DVD. Just a slightly different process, but very similar. You'll never look back to VCD's, once you start making DVDs. (Well, I hope you never look back.) Good luck...........

I have used this method with good success.
Print To Tape through the firewire connection > into camera > then RCA cable out to VHS deck input.
Best of luck.
