Speaking of Maps... How would you?

I'm working on a documentary. In that doc, a reference is made to several cities around the US. I'm showing a physical map of the continental US.

What I would like to have happen is this: As the narrator mentions each city, a point of bright light would appear at the proper geographical location on the map and quick dim to dot (as though it were an LED).

Could this be accomplished using the nifty tools in Vegas, or would I be forced to have this animated with another application?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Use the light rays filter on a text event. Play with the controls keyframing them. you can change the color of the dot also.

You can also put a zoom on the dot while the light ray is working, well, you know the Vegas capabilities, they are infinite.
