Speaking of plug-ins ... Mercalli stabilisation

MUTTLEY wrote on 11/26/2007, 12:22 PM

Seems enough Vegas users wrote to Pro Dad about the Mercalli stabilisation program that they are working on a plug-in for Vegas. Since they didn't send an NDE or even ask to keep it hushed I'm going to guess they wouldn't mind me sharing the email and the beta. Below is the email I got from them today.

Here you are...

So many users did ask if there ever will be a Mercalli Version for Vegas. Although the Vegas interface doesn´t allow a video analysis like Mercalli is processing , our developers finally found a way to integrate Mercalli and to use it as usual with other NLEs too.
However, speed is OK, Multi-Core is supported too and it integrates really smooth and complete interactive.

Do you like to test the Beta-Version? Sure - here it is:

Please make sure that you did install either the full version of Mercalli or the demoversion from www.prodad.de , download section.

Then please install the Mercalli additional installation pack for Sony Vegas (still BETA):
www.prodad.de/else/mercalli-10-service-VEGAS.exe

You will find a new filter effect which can be applied to a video clip. The use should be self-explaining. Additional infomation about settings, customisation etc. are available in the manual (press F1 key when Mercalli is running).

We would be glad to receive your response - however it will be.

Thanks.

With kind regards,

Good news, Ray.

Do you know if the Vegas plug-in will be a free update if I purchase the Expert version of Mercalli today?

Thanks,

I would hope and assume but only know what you know from the email they sent. If you already bought Mercalli try the beta and see if it gives any indication, I'm guessing it should since you have to have the full version already installed for the Vegas plug-in version to work.

just out of curiousity, anyone here got this thing working? I get an error code # 109, but that's on my Vista machine, haven't tried it on XP yet.

Running a Quad Core XP w/ 4GB of RAM.

I got as far as getting the Mercalli plug-in parameters window and it asks for video analysis. Hit the video analysis button...and I get the following error:

-------------

ProDAD Fatal
Exception from Mercalli Script
Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

-------------

I currently use the Deshaker script, but it makes me a little nervous to depend on, as changing the specifics are way beyond me, and maintaining the updates is dependent on volunteers it seems. If this plugin works, I would definitely purchase it.

For anyone interested, I bought a copy of Goodervideo steadicam. While it's not a plugin...it works VERY well. And it's CHEAP!

SteadyHAND has been around since Vegas 3, as DynaPel SteadyHand. If you do a search on SteadyHand you will find quite a bit of info on it in this forum.

I just checked again on the proDAD site to see the status of the Mercalli Vegas stabilizer plugin (www.prodad.de). I was able to get it working as a Video FX plugin within Vegas 8, but I found the render to become blurry in the spots where Mercalli was attempting to remove the unsteadiness of the footage. I much rather preferred the original unsteadiness to Mercalli's blurriness. Anyone else found the same results?

Also, it wasn't able to render my Cineform 24p footage. A message came up stating "No matching Render - template could not be found for this video-format! Instead the profile proDAD-Mercalli HDV 1080-50i [would be used]." I certainly didn't want the 24p footage rendering to 50i; perhaps in the full version it gives you more template options when rendering.

(If anyone is still having difficulty setting up Mercalli as a plugin, I installed the demo, then clicked on the "Free Update" link, clicked on Download Service, which updated the demo for Vegas).
