Special Effects Request

BobMoyer wrote on 7/9/2002, 5:14 PM
I have downloaded several of the sample .veg files (from SonicFoundry's ffp site) and also several of the files from Chienworks site. Thanks to the "beam me up" type of transition, my grandchildren are convinced that I am magic and I am eating that up! Is it possible to achieve the effect of walking into a wall (from Harry Potter disappearing into the wall at platform #9 3/4) with VV3.0c? Thanks.

Bob

I haven't seen the movie you refer to, but if i'm imagining what you're after, you could use a vertical mask (white on one side, black on the other) to have a character disappear as they move sideways. If you have a gradient between the white and black, the mask will allow them to fade out as they walk through that area. Apply whatever effect you like as they go; perhaps a ripple would be nice.

Chienworks,

Hey, very creative suggestion, gives me lots of ideas.

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and other veterans (and Sonic folks) for providing so much help around here. I'm pretty new to video and Vegas, and this board is terrific. Right up there with the Cakewalk board for digital audio.

Chienworks,

Thanks a million for your suggestion. I just looked at your sample file and it is exactly what I would like to do. When you get a chance could you add a 'note' file to explain the steps you took to accomplish this?

Thanks again,
Bob

Chienworks:

Very Nice!

You could also animate the size of the swirl small to large to create something like a wave ripple effect.

For the terribly curious, i've uploaded the entire project. It's about 9.2MB.

http://www.chienworks.com/media/wallwalking.zip

It is a 3.0c file, so for those of you who haven't installed the update yet, here's your excuse ;)

Thanks, that's great! I am still working on disappearing into the wall, I know I'll never figure that one out.

The files are located on "Chienworks" site at the below URL:

http://www.chienworks.com/media/vidfact/

The 'beam me up' transition is about the 7th file down:

briggs-beam_me_up

The note file explains how it is done and also mentions the original file that is located further down on the list of files. This is a GREAT site...check it out!

A Transporter effect is also described at:

ftp://dude:sweet@ftp.sonicfoundry.com/Sample%20Projects/Transporter/

ftp.sonicfoundry.com
user: dude
password: sweet
folder: Sample Projects / Transporter

It has a different look than the other one. You can learn from them both.
