If anyone knows how I can use Vegas Video to perform this
effect, can you please tell me how. I would like to play
back video footage thats black & white and be able to put
color in only selected things on the screen. Maybe things
like certain people or objects. An example of where i seen
this done is in a current video, artist named Jill Scott
the song name is Long walk Home, I think. Any feedbackon
this topic will be highly thanked.

Well lucky you, I was just wrestling with this very problem
myself and just managed to do it minutes ago. I dont know
how to do it within VV, but this is how it was done:
download a program called AVIQUICK, (look for it on
GOOGLE.COM or CNET), and follow the little tutorial that
comes wit it, (it's free). This program is a little bit
clunky, (like I said, it's free), but it'll allow you to
convert the individual frames of an .avi into bitmap, .bmp,
files, import these files into a graphics editor,
(photoshop, ms paint), do whatever you want with them, and
then reform them back into an .avi file. If you find a
better way to do it than this, e.g., a better, smoother
running program, I'd appreciate your posting your findings
in this forum. Good luck..

What you're talking about is a very complex special effect.
You're referring to the special effects used in
Pleasantville, right? Certain objects of color in a black
and white setting. I'm positive that Vegas can't do that
mainly because to do something of that high quality would
require an enormous amount of research and computer power.

Corel Photo Paint can import AVIs (and Quicktime-Movies)
directly. You can then edit it frame by frame and again
save it as an AVI (using your installed compression-codecs,
if you want to).

I believe Sonic Foundry Viscosity can also be used to do
what you want? I've never used the software but it seems to
be reasonably priced. Has anyone used this software ... I'm
thinking about purchasing it?

I've been playing with the Viscosity demo for about an
hour, it works great ! Forget about AVIQUICK and get this.
