Special motion graphics

To add special effects to a video project, I'm looking for stuff like "white noise" or "snow". Something like on a television screen when you get no signal or like a scrambled tv channel.
These things can probably be found on motion graphics CD's (which cost a lot) , but does there exist another way to create things like this ? A piece of software or so ...

In Vegas,

You might try adding film FX to a white color-background. Keep the dust & flicker, but diminish the hair, jitter, and scratches.

You can experiment and make the tint any color and the color-background any color.

Adding contrast to the chain is kinda funky too.

Did you try the "Add Noise" plug-in?

Try this for a quick TV "snow" effect

1. Use TextBackground, black, drag to timeline, click on preset, change to Gray.

2. HSL filter about 125-130

3. Add Noise filter, level 600-700, check monochromatic and animate

That will give a quick recipe for basic TV snow. Well sort of... <wink>

To apply to an image, put the image on a track underneath. On the top track ,where you applied the "snow" click composting mode button, then apply overlay.

You want to get more fancy try changing the opacity of each track. To simulate a weak TV signal fading in and out try adding the levels filter and then setup key frames dropping the gamma up and down and also add automation to the add noise filter to add/decrease the "snow".
