SPEECH TO TEXT NOT WORKING? Just ordered the new Vegas 20

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 7/15/2024, 4:55 PM

Hi,

Just ordered Vegas Pro 20 and was looking forward to the SPEECH TO TEXT option... well it apparently is not working. Why say this is offered and then you purchase it and it does not work?

Here is the problem:

First, it spells words wrong ( how can you edit this because it will not let me) Second, it did the speech to text 3x, hence cant delete the other 2. Third, I choose 25 characters and 1 line, the first 5 lines are fine and then the rest of the lines are full lines Why is everything always a huge hassle with Vegas? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Please help, I was doing this for a client on a project and have been stuck since yesterday as no one has replied :(

Thank you for your help.

This is VP 21 or 20? If 21 it worked better in build 208 before text based editing was introduced.

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 7/15/2024, 9:12 PM

My bad it is VP 21 build 315 that is the one it came with. How do I fix the above as it seem like you cant. Thank you.

@Kimberly-Durecki You'll find the link for 208 in this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/update-vegas-pro-21-build-208--143825/

You will need to uninstall 315 before installing 208.

Hi Eric, Thank you. So I have to totally uninstall Vegas Pro 21 that I just purchased, and installed a older build? So build 208 works with speech to text? Will this fix the problem I have above? Thank you.

Yes, uninstall it, download 208 and install 208. That's it! It's what I'm using.

Speech to text is transcription only in 208- quite simple but at least for me worked better than the "text based editing" 3 step process did in 315. That seemed unfinished.

Then when you're done you can download a SRT of the subtitle and continue to edit in a text editor (can be faster to do that way) and bring it back to VEGAS as events on your timeline.

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 7/15/2024, 11:22 PM

Thank you, now tell me why in the world would they not fix that? Gets me mad as I just bought it a few days ago. You would think they fix it but no. Terrible. I appreciate your reply and thank you!

I agree, I think because they dont want to address the problem and there are ALOT of problems and always have been with Vegas. One thing about Abobe, they have 24 hr support and you can talk to someone at anytime. Vegas you have to post on here and pray that a kind hearted person will answer you, otherwise the problem never gets solved. Cant even find a video or solution anywhere. Why would they upgrade with a new build and not fix this? Makes me feel dooped as I bought the program and it says it has this feature and it does not work. Rubs me the wrong way.

RogerS wrote on 7/15/2024, 11:51 PM

@Kimberly-Durecki That's not really fair- there is a thread the developers here had pinned so that everyone could give feedback for improving text-based editing.

Some of these changes were already made in build 315 but there are unresolved issues as you'll see here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-build-300-text-based-editing-beta-feedback--145247/

You can also write to support - scroll back to the top and click on "support."

I'm sure it will be fixed, the question is if it is fixed with an update to 21 or during the lifecycle of 22.
(The development timeline for VEGAS doesn't have much in common with the annual upgrade release cycle anymore).

Kimberly-Durecki wrote on 7/16/2024, 9:52 AM

Your right that was not totally fair. My issue is they say 21 has all these new features and apparently this one does not work, so I would say they should not advertise it. I bought it looking forward to these features and then find out it does not work. If they know there are problems, then dont put it in the description for selling it, fix the problem first and then do a upgrade. If features have problems then dont do a new update until it is fixed. Now I have to uninstall and reinstall a older build. I shouldn't have to do this. This is my problem with Vegas.

@Kimberly-Durecki

I personally never got around trying out the new text based editing, I mostly film nature, animals and landscapes, so wind noise and bird song tend to be problematic (sarcasm!) for speech to text.

Besides if speech to text is needed, I use my own script based on whisper ai (you can find that one if you do a search in this forum where I provide the script and how to install).

There is also another whisper based speech to text in the happy otter scripts for Vegas

That being said, the text based editing should not have replaced the prior implementation of speech-text as it is beta, but rather added (but separate) as a new feature even if it is in it's beta state, so people can still use whatever suits them.

This worked beautifully! Wow the time I wasted messing around with the one that came with it and didnt work. Thank you sooooooooooooo much! The only thing I could not do is after I saved the Text as a SRT file and opened it up in word to edit it, I could not get it imported back into Vegas. That is ok, I can edit the text in Vegas separately. No big deal. Thanks again everyone, I do appreciate you!

RogerS wrote on 7/16/2024, 8:30 PM

Open it in notepad, not Word. You can edit and then import it into Vegas.

iEmby wrote on 7/16/2024, 10:29 PM

just one question .. i have created more than 5 project in 315.. now if i want to shift to 208 then i have to copy paste which will remove some of effects.

this is my recent project in 315

lots of media generators, text, transitions and effects are there. also PAN & CROPS maximum times.

is there any script of tool which can note what i did in VEGAS 315 and then i import it in 208 same as it i did in 315. so that i can continue without any change.

thankyou

@iEmby You might create a new thread for this (under scripting)? as this one is about speech to text. Can you just finish the projects in 315 or is a major bug stopping you? If you get 22 when it comes out you can edit 315 projects with that.
