Absolutely, with the velocity envelope.
right click on the event and select insert envelope-velocity.
then create points on the envelope line, you can not only speed up but slow down or even freeze a frame.

Velocity envelope, is one way. Right click on your clip, go to insert/remove envelope, then velocity. It goes by percentage, so you may have to play around with it.

Ginsu knife commercial: But wait, there's more!

Once you insert the velocity envelope, and once you add a bunch of points, and once you have dragged those points up and down to create your speed changes, right-click on any line segment between any two points and you can choose how to shape that line between the two points. Thus, for your particular situation, you may only need a point at the beginning and end of the event, and then select "slow fade."

did you know you can time compress/expand your clips on the timeline? simply put your cursor on the left or right edge of your clip, hold down the ctrl button, and click and drag.

if you want extreme speed, then try putting a velocity envelope on it and watch it go WAY fast. i use this feature all the time. cool stuff.

thank you very much, the bill is in the mail...

Problem with the Ctrl-drag method is that it won't ramp.

On the other hand, it also adjusts the audio speed which velocity envelopes don't do.

Question?

When I VeloEnvel, say to make FASTER, I get notches on the top edge of the Event. This is HOW it should be. Now as I then try and reduce the length of the EVENT, to one of the notches, it will not "snap" to the notch? Is this a "feature" in the invertebrate sense?

Grazie

hmm... you're right Chienworks. which is what jbeale was looking for in the first place.

although, you could split the event in incriments. this is cool as well because you can adjust the tempo according to the music's pace. each beat is another incriment in speed.

another secret for the sake of sharing. jbeale, remember me when you get rich, and send me a postcard.

Grazie, rumor has it this is something that used to work in older versions of Vegas, but doesn't anymore. Here's what i do ...

- add the velocity envelope
- place the cursor somewhere close after the notch
- use the left arrow to move the cursor back until i can see the preview loop from the beginning of the clip back to the end
- use Alt-right arrow to go forward again a frame at a time until i see the first frame of the clip again
- S to split (if desired, or whatever else you want to do) since your cursor is now at the "notch" point.

if it's a loop, how do you know what the beginning is.......

Chienworks wrote on 6/10/2006, 4:42 AM
If it's a loop, do you care? ;)

What i'm talking about is the way Vegas loops any clip. After the last frame, Vegas starts over at the beginning of the clip again.
