Speed Up Sound

tserface wrote on 8/5/2002, 10:53 PM
Is there a way to "compress" the sound so that it speeds up rather than getting reinterpreted (like when you ctrl+shink a clip? What I'm looking for is something like what happens to the sound when you use the scrub tool and speed up the playback of a clip (sort of like breathing in hellium). I looked around in the settings, but I couldn't find anything.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

You might try un-checking the following box:

Options>Preferences>Editing>"Preserve pitch when stretching audio events"

Then, when you ctrl+shink a clip, it will sound like a tape sped-up, with the pitch rising the more you "shrink" the clip.

You can also do this in Sound Forge 5 easily using pitch bend.

I guess I should have thought of that one... duh! Thanx...

Nice idea, but it didn't seem to work. The sound still got choppy instead of speeding up and sounding like a chipmunk. I played around with SoundForge a little, but it's hard to sync it up with the speeded up video. Oh well, I'll keep playing...

:)

You want to use the "change length AND pitch" setting if you want to sound like speeded-up tape.

Thanks that worked cool. I had to ungroup the audio from the video before it would let me change the properties, but it was easy enough to ungroup, make the change, then regroup it.
