If you are using VV4 it's easy. Hit the U key to separate the audio track from the video track.

In vv3 I've usually made a copy of one of the tracks, deleted the original track and used the copy since that is "free-floating". So take the audio track, right click and copy. Then delete the audio track locked to the video track. Use the copy of the audio track.

Just click on the "Ignore Event Grouping" button on the toolbar, adjust to your hearts content, and the click on "Ignore Event Grouping" to turn the grouping back on.

BTW, "U" works in Vegas 3 too.

Hi all,

Rather than dis-associating your video from your audio, you can easily click on the "ignore event grouping" icon in the toolbar and drag the audio or video points individually, then de-activate the feature to keep your audio and video grouped.

JetDV...NOW you tell me! Seriously, I've been using vv3 for about 18 months. Recently, I attended the VASST Tour here in Los Angeles and learned that U tip during VV4 training. That was a great learning seminar.

Steve,

"That was a great learning seminar."

This is a pretty good learning seminar right here. This little message thread was helpful to me.

I suppose this can be done within V4 direct - but, I'm using Contour Shuttle Pro and use the "walk" the clip-end forwards and backwards to get that exact point to Split Edits adjustments. All I do is use the inner jog wheel and spin it forwards and backwards - neat eh?

Thanks, but this U trick, how do I undo it?
jetdv wrote on 3/2/2003, 7:18 AM
Short answer is: You Don't. Longer answer: Select all of the clips that were previously grouped and press "G".

That's the reason it is better to just use the "Ignore Event Grouping" button on the toolbar.

Thanks for your 'short answer'it's very clear to me now.
