Can you please upload to the forum via the upload icon a screenshot of the split screen image that you are seeing which also includes the timeline. Also, what version of Vegas Pro are you using?

I'm guessing... Right-click the track header and uncheck "Expanded Track Layers"?

Thanks for the reply guys; but, I have solved my problem. The issue was created in preview. I must have accidental hit the split screen view button at top of the preview screen. What I don't understand is why it only showed up split screen on clips that included a fade or transition.

It's not a split screen but just one half of the preview without applied FX, transitions etc. It's a feature to compare original with and without FX, transitions etc.

Thank you for the clarification. I obviously did not know this feature existed.

This feature I often used to compare the result of video stabilizing.

Also you can decide in this feature which side of the preview window shows the video without FX, transitions etc. Even it's possible to drag with your mouse a rectangle in the preview window, inside the rectangle FX, transitions etc are not applied.

This feature is only for previewing, it will not be visible in the final render.
