Split videos no longer automatically a subclip in trimmer Vegas 14/16

Now all of the sudden when I take a video clip that is already split and "Open in trimmer" I'm finding I can't copy just the audio and video from that clip if I wanted to say split them for videos where audio and video are already combined. Now when I attempt to do this the trimmer acts as if I have selected the entire original unsplit video rather than the clip that I have opened in the trimmer. I can plainly see in the trimmer window the name of the split clip too.

So in order to get around this annoyance after I have split the clip I have to right click and select "Create subclip" then trimmer works as it normally did for me. I can't figure out how or what I changed for this stupid annoyance to popup and I don't like having to take this extra step now after all this time.

Can someone point me in the direction of how to make the trimmer automatically make it into a subclip?

From what I know when you use Open in Trimmer, the Trimmer Window always fits the duration of the selected event of the timeline, but the full clip of that event always stays in the Trimmer.
