Splitting a track on the diagonal

I'm trying to get a video with two tracks. Using track motion, I can easily get track1 to show on the left hand side, and track2 on the right, with an imaginary 'vertical' line separating the two. What I'd like to do instead is have an imaginary 'diagonal' line from corner to corner where one track is in the left/bottom division and the other is in the top/right division. (hope this makes sense)

Is this possible?

You could probably accomplish this with either pan/crop or track motion with some fiddling. In pan/crop you can use the bezier mask function to make an arbitrary shape.

Lacking the bezier mask function i'd create a simple static mask either as a still image or using a gradient media generator. Place the mask on the top track and the videos on the next two tracks below. Set the compositing mode on the mask track to Multiply(Mask). Now wherever the mask is white you'll see upper video track and wherever it's black the upper track will be transparent showing the track below.

I like Chienworks' idea, or, you an play with the "cookie cutter" fx, I just did a quick test using the "triangle right" preset on a clip with a second clip below it, adjusted the size and location, put a little border on it, and it looked good.
Just another idea.

Approach 1 Masking:

i) Place Event I over Event 2
ii) Track 1 Event 1
iii) Track 2 Event 2
iv) Bezier mask a Diagonal across Event 1

Approach 2 use a Diag Transition (Linear Wipe):
On the same track, overlap both and apply Linear Wipe setting the Angle to what you want and then insert a STATIC Transition Envelope to HOLD the Transition in place. You can even Feather their edges.

Thanks for the prompt help all. I went with the cookie cutter idea. FYI, if it helps anyone, a quick tutorial on this is here:

Use the "Split Screen" effect in NewBlueFX Video Essentials III.
