Splitting and deleting regions problems

I'm having problems splitting tracks. I have a video, audio and video track (1,2 and3). I move the cursor to a particular point, press "S" and nothing happens. Nothing happens when I select "Split" from the menu. What am I doing wrong? Also, I have some regions marked, and I can't seem to get rid of them (the two upside down triangles on top of the timeline, not the video itself).. Help.

Thanks

Splits work on the selected tracks... I suspect you might not be selecting the tracks properly.

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to delete individual markers as you have to position the mouse right over them... press right-click and the menu is there to delete it. If you are off, even by a tiny amount, you get the right clck menu for the track header bar. Also you can delete ALL markers by right clicking in an empty area of the top track header area select "Markers/Regions" and then "Delete".

Are you sure nothing is happning? Splitting doesn't remove anything. It merely divides an event into pieces. There isn't much change on the screen. Take a look at http://www.vegasusers.com/testbench/screenshots/chienworks-before-after-split.jpg The cursor is at the 0:07 point. After splitting what was previouls a single continuous event now looks like two separate events butted up against each other.

What color are the triangles you're referring to? Regions are marked in green and they're more flag-shaped than triangles. If you're seeing small yellow triangles then you don't need to get rid of them. They're just a selection range and don't have much effect on anything. You'll quickly learn to ignore them when you don't need them.

I'm placing the cursor on Track 1 and clicking to set a point. I then select tracks 1 and 2 Video and audio) and Split..Often only either the video or the audio track is split, not both

Depending on how you are setup and if you have "ignore event grouping" (toggle icon up on the toolbar) enabled then you will split only the currently selected track (note the purple color of the track that is highlighted).

If you have this problem (and turning event grouping on does not work) "ctrl-click" each track to ensure the tracks you want to split are highlighted.

Or... if you want to split across all of the events (maybe you have dozens of tracks) do not select any particular track but click in the area above all the tracks (just above the timecode display). That will allow you to split across everything in the project.
