splitting video

is there a way to split the video only? when I split to remove sections of video, the split is carried through all tracks including the songs I added. then I end up with one song with multiple sections. I could just remove all the sections and add the whole song back in but I thought there might be a better way.

If you click directly on the video event itself rather than clicking on the empty timeline below the tracks, the split should affect only the video event. If it still splits both, press U first to Ungroup the video from the audio.
