Splitting working correctly in V6?

Hi All,

I was using the splitting function on V6 and noticed that if I split an event that had a velocity envelope on it that was not set to normal speed, then the event to the right of the split changes so that it starts at the beginning of the underlying video file i.e. it does not maintain it's position before the split!

If I do a split at normal velocity then it works fine.

Anyone else experienced this? Or is it normal functionality?

Seems a bit odd to me, I found it very frustrating. I would have to change the velocity to normal on the event which then changes the amount of video that is shown on the timeline; try and find where the split should be; do the split, then set the velocity back to what I had it.

Any views would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Same thing happens in Vegas 5, and Vegas 4, ....

I discovered this a long time ago and have reported it in the past.

Velocity envelopes are amazingly powerful. A wonderful feature. However, the implementation is incredibly flawed. There is no easy, intuitive way to edit the speed and also have the frames at the beginning and the end of the clip be what you want. There needs to be some sort of "constrained" mode that lets you choose the endpoints and then mess around with the relative speeds within the event. In othere words, you'd choose the start and end frame, and then the shape of the curve would determine the relative speeds. If you then wanted the overall speed to be faster or slower, you would drag either end of the event, again using some sort of constraint key that would keep the end points intact.

Unfortunately, this is no such function at present.

Keyframes suffer from a whole host of similar issues, especially since the visual cues were removed in Vegas 5 (and still haven't returned in Vegas 6).

Thanks for the responses guys.

I must admit I hadn't noticed in V5; guess I never did many splits on velocity affected events!

There's obviously a whole load of issues with the velocity stuff; but at least I now know. It really threw me out when it first happend, I couldn't work out what was going on!

Still, the velocity envelopes are awesome and I use them quite a bit, so now i know what to expect it should make things easier to work around.

Cheers

After jacking around trying to make this happen for 30 minutes and searching here and help for some switch to enable it I finally figured out a workaround in case anyone's interested: simply select the area you want and render to .avi.
