Spontaneous Exit before finishing MPEG2 Render

VV3 spontaneously exit before finishing MPEG2 rendering. Sometimes, the computer will auto reboot. Sometimes, VV3 exits to the desktop. Can anyone assist? Thanks.

windows 2000, sp3
Vegas Video 3.0c
Directx 8
768 mb ram
1200mhz Athlon
Asus A7V MOBO

We've seen something similar on one other athlon system- is it possible that the machine is overheating? Don't laugh...
