Thanks Pete. That's the first hard disk recorder that doesn't look like a brick. $1500 is pricey, but not too bad in comparison to Firestore and others. Me wants one!

$1500 !! - you're lucky - the Oz price I've been quoted is A$2970 which is about US$2230.

Apart from using camera L series batteries, the nice feature for V1 purchasers is the auto record function - press the cam record and the DR60 starts recording.

Well, I'm still using my trusty Quickstream which, for me has worked flawlessly, though others have given it a pretty severe drubbing.

The Quickstream looks ok. A bit of overkill on the rubber though. Do they expect you to drop it off a cliff?

Does the HVR-DR60 work on cameras other than the V1?

I believe so but the V1 will give you more info about the state of the DR60 in the camera's viewfinder.

DGates,
Sorry for the late reply, we're teaching here in NYC at the NAB Post show....
Peter gave you the correct model #, and you've got the price.
It's much more trustworthy than the Citidisk, and it's the only one costing less than the Sony. Sony is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, and yeah...using the Sony batts is nice. Especially for those loooooonnnnnnggggggg record times.
It will work on any DV/HDV camcorder, but the V1 has unique dialog with the DR60 that you won't find in the Z1 or other camcorders.
I'm sure liking it a lot.
