1. photoshop for NLE
2. lighting
3. sound
These are all CMP books.. I know people have said good things about the photoshop for NLE book.. anyone have any knowledge of the lighting and sound books that CMP is publishing????

Jay Rose' book on Sound is very good. I'm also working on a Surround book, and a general audio for DV book. Also, Chris Meyer (of after FX fame) has just completed a general audio for DV book.
After shopping all the publishers out there, I was REALLY happy with how CMP has shown they'd treat my work. Although there was a third party editor that came into the mix that delayed my book significantly and caused a few errors, CMP dealt with it well. They really got it together, IMO.
Rich Harrington's Photoshop for DV book is a *must have* book for all NLE users. It's got a special section in it on Vegas, put together by our own Dr. Dropout.

I received Spot's book just over a week ago, and I have read it from cover to cover. I purchased the book from Amazon in July and I had been anxiously awaiting its arrival. While waiting for the book, I purchaed the set of 4 DVD's produced by Spot for ClassOnDemand. I was quite pleased to see that in spite of having watched these DVD's very carefully, I still got a great deal out of Spot's book. The content on the CD included with Spot's book is worth the cost of the book alone. My favorite "feature" of DSE's book is that he goes way beyond the straightforward explanations of how the various tools, filters, etc. are used in Vegas and covers some truly creative aspects of audio mixing, compositing, etc. The book is very very well organized, clearly and logically presented (no surprise to those familiar with DSE's work!) . Editing is not a business for me, but I have been doing NLE since my Amiga Toaster/Flyer days, and I became a Vegas fan some six months ago. To date I have produced two projects that are video slide shows prepared from slides scanned with a Nikon ED4000 film scanner and processed with Silverfast software. Spot's clear and lucid presentation of the power that is within Vegas will add greatly to the skills that I have picked up learning from others on this forum and from personal experience. Spot's book is a definite "must have" for anyone using Vegas who wants to really get out of this wonderful product all that it is capable of.

I have been using Photoshop for over 5 years and have purchased lots of Photoshop books and read them. My favorite book is Photoshop Artistry by Barry Haynes. This book has taught me a great deal about image restoration and processing in Photoshop.

I am most grateful for all of the help of those on this forum and to DSE for creating his fine book.

I've been with Vegas since version 2, and while I'm not an expert, I am comfortable within the application. I was somewhat sceptical about purchasing the book for the price especially when I saw the user range was Novice to Intermediate, but rest assured, this book is worth every penny I paid for it. Like any good to great application, Vegas has a breadth to it most of us overlook because we don't use manuals for anything other than reference. SPOT's book not only brings the depth of the application to the fore, it also lets us have a peak into the tips and tricks of a very very talented artist. Thanks for the hard work SPOT. It's been my pleasure to read and learn
