Glad you found it useful, Grazie. It was inspired by a question from someone here on the forum.

thanks for the link Grazie!
Damn that SpOt though! the whole time as I was reading the post, on my tiny ancient laptop screen I was thinking " yeah now this text effect would look really cool if it were displaced by the height map"
then low and behold as I scrolled down he already thought of that too and had it in his article.

Now look here you guys, all this CGI stuff is taking the fun out of this game.
Seriously the first film I worked on we had burning text for the credits. We carefully did the text with Letraset (anyone here THAT old?) on black cardboard, clamped it between two laboratory stands and set it on fire around dusk in the backyard. It was kind of hard to know what f stop to use on a clockwork Bolex and some kerosine was needed at times cause the spring in the camera would run down too quick.
Next time I'll tell you how we blew some of the talent up so they looked like they'd stepped on land mines, well actually it was pure good luck that a few of them hit the mark at the right (wrong time according to their mums who had to wash their clothes) time.

Bob,

You had speed problems on a wind-up Bolex??? Did you ever try the Electric Motor Drive? Its speed was automagically controlled by the battery voltage, which depended on the ambient temperature and the charge status...

I took the wind-up every time!

Letraset really was a great invention. I used them to make very realistic government envelopes to my friends, calling them to cremation or whatever was the adolescent fun du jour. :O)

That was a cool article, Spot.

We are spoiled with Vegas, not every NLE can do these things well (or at all).

The speed was fine, I'm certain it had a mechanical governor. We even spent an afternoon doin stop frame animation with it. Great bit of gear, three lens turret. Someone gave me an old S8 camera that's much the same. Despite being under someones house for years the thing still works, including the photoelectric exposure meter. And here's the thing, you can vary the frame rate!
