Spot, just for you .... i created an "audio sharing" page at VegasUsers.com. Well, because you uploaded some audio files anyway. Hopefully more folks will make use of it. Thanks!
Thanks, Kelly. I didn't think they'd uploaded, because I got a 'page not found' error when it was done. Glad it got there, the song is for anyone's use, I guess it's popular for weddings and such.
Excellent Lads! Thanks . .I've already dowloaded both your files and intend, permission being given by you two, to use it in a project I've been working on.
I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the file, it was a quick 30 minute recording session with a 5 minute mix. If it turns out that folks are happy with it, I'll leave it, but otherwise will probably do another mix at some future time. I'd like to do it as a pop-style piece as well. I rarely do classical anything anymore, but doing this for MNJ inspired me a little...
Spot, It does seem to end early. I'm not sure if that was an upload problem or not. You might want to try uploading the same file again now that the upload software knows to expect audio files.
Yes, this could be easily done on a 150.00 keyboard. The keyboard that was used to create the composition is a Midiman Oxygen, www.m-audio.com and it's a 50.00 controller. Then I used a Roland SC (sound canvas) soft synth for everything except a couple pizzicato parts, which I used a Live Synth Pro soft synth (100.00) and soundfonts downloaded from the web for free.
I have these and more on my laptop. This could be done with Acid Pro, or any other Midi App.
I'll rework the song, I downloaded it, and it's clipped off the end for some reason. Plays fine here though. I'll just add 2 extra bars to the ending.
Any other kind music you guys want to hear? If it's something I can easily play, and is not copyrighted, I've no problem doing a couple.
Wow Kelly, what a great idea and how generous of you. I'm a little embarrased to say this is my first visit to your site since you first started it, but it's really grown man! I'm going to check out the video sharing now but just wanted to let you know I just uploaded a 01:36 .mp3 for your approval ( I wrote it, so there are no copyright issues).
Randy
Kelly, before this thread ends up buried, could you repost with a title that is more clear on the nature of offering audio for video use.
Also, I uploaded a little something, but it would be nice if ideas could be given as to what people are looking for.
Example... a long background type of thing, or short pieces they can add here and there.
I'm playing around with a rather dark ambience piece right now that runs about 2:30.
Maybe that could be something to add to your site... a place where people can ask for different styles and lengths.
Excellent, excellent idea by the way!
Oops, sorry Kelly I just uploaded a .wav that I forgot to convert to .mp3. I won't let it happen again but please e-mail me privately (randy at ccpro.net) if I need to redo as an mp3.
Thanks,
Randy
Hmm. I'm guessing there might be some confusion going on. I saw this site as a place for people to showcase their Vegas/VideoFactory/MovieStudio/SoundForge/Acid creations. It seems that those who are starting to use it want a place to provide material for others who are using SONY Media software, but didn't necessarily use that software to create the material.
Any thoughts on which is better? Or are both needed?
And yes, Randy, .wav files are automatically rejected. Sorry about that!
FWIW, I vote that we keep the site to material created by V/VF/MS/SF/A...Otherwise you will probably become overwhelmed my uploads (not that it is bad for people like me who love to use reallly good royality free music).
Probably best to showcase what can be done with the selected products.
Here are my thoughts Kelly...I'll bet a lot of our friends on this forum such as myself have created "original" music,(whether it be using loops or from scratch) soundscapes, sound fx etc. but have already used it to the point of clients getting sick of it. I for instance have many pieces that are just collecting dust that I would love to share with others and hope others might do the same. My only concern would be if people were to post copyrighted material that wasn't theirs. Anyway, such a site would be fantastic!
Randy
I had understood it as a place to upload works that others can use in their projects.
However, uploading audio tracks that fit the required timeframe of specific videos is almost impossible. That's why my second upload was only 30 sec long and kinda "vague" (not any particular style). That way it can be used more easily.
Here's an idea. People can upload whatever they think is worthy of a listen or usable in someone's project. All uploads become public domain and royalty free. You could have it stipulated that nothing can be used by itself and sold. Kinda like the Acid loops libraries. Make projects using uploaded songs, but you can't use them "as is" legally.
If that's too much of a hassle to deal with, I'd say your original idea of just sharing works using Sony software is excellent also.
In the end though, it's your call Kelly. It's a great idea either way.
I'll chip in with my own thoughts, even though i'm the one who asked the question.
How about if i add a selection box on the upload screen so that the poster can choose whether it's a "project created in SONY softare for review" or a "here's something folks can use, have at it" thing. They'll be listed in two separate categories depending on this choice. I'll also add an acceptable usage field with options such as "all rights reserved, contact artist for permission", "permission granted for non-commercial use only", "public domain, have at it", etc.
That should cover both sides of the fence. I see both directions as being very useful, but they should be distinct to avoid confusion. Now ... we'll see how soon i can get to it. ;)
Kelly,
Don't EVEN go there. leave the whole concept of public domain out of there or you are biting off a really ugly mouthful.
Just have it be a sharing site, that if folks upload, they know it's gonna get used. But that's all that should be said. If you use legal terms, copyright comments, etc, you are opening up a can o' worms. What you might do is suggest that folks enroll the works with common copyrights, but frankly, I'd avoid the issue altogether. But it's your site....Reps, warranties, mechanicals all become issues the moment you even hint at copyright issues.
