Square effect for highlight video...

I am making a highlight video and trying to put a yellow square around an athlete to show where they are located on the floor. But I don't want it to last the entire clip...just at the beginning so that particular athlete is easy to follow. I tried the "cookie cutter" video effect but I don't want any of the clip blacked out. All I want is a square around an athlete for a second or so and then for it to go back to the normal clip without any effect. I hope this makes sense.

Here is an example of how I would like the effect to work: http://www.rivals.com/uploads/978/501992.wmv

Also the pause would be a nice function to use along with this square around the athlete. Please let me know if you can help...

Thank you!

My 2 cents says to make a box in a photoshop program. That way you can make it any size or color that you'd like it to be, and then save it as a PNG file. Then when you put it on your timeline, you can also Pan & Crop it to your specs. I use PhotoDraw all the time to make simple stuff like arrows, thought bubbles, etc...

RJ.

You've got the right idea -- Cookie Cutter can be used for this. Here's one way:

Right-click in the "Video Overlay" track right above your Video track. Insert an Empty event. Now position and stretch it to appear over the time that you want the hightlighted box to appear in your video clip.

Now drag the Cookie Cutter FX of your choice (e.g. Yellow Glowing Portrait), and you'll see in the preview that your video that a portion is highligted. Now what you need to do is position the circle and animate it with keyframes in case your subject is moving. You can use the fade offset to make the highlight fade in and out.

Probably the easiest way is to use the text generator. Use Wingdings font and the lower case o is a square. You can adjust the size by the size of the font and move its location via pan crop or positioning.
